DORCHESTER MEN'S SHED
Our shed, based in Dorchester Dorset, is open to both men and women. We are a Community Interest Company (CIC) which manages the workshop for the members to further friendships while working with wood.
We run a "Men's Shed" which is just a larger version of the typical man's shed in the garden, a place to feel at home and pursue practical interests with a high degree of autonomy. Our Men's Shed offers this to its members where they can share the tools and resources they need to work on projects of their own choosing at their own pace and in a safe, friendly and inclusive venue.
Men's Sheds are places of skill sharing and informal learning, of individual pursuits and community projects, of purpose, achievement and social interaction. A Men's Shed is a place of leisure where men and women come together to work with wood.
Our activities usually involve making or mending in wood such as carpentry, joinery, turning, carving, whittling, marquetry, furniture renovation. Reclamation, reuse and restoration will feature strongly, and some say that is true of the men too!
We welcome anyone, male or female, as long as you are over the age of 18.
Whichever activities are pursued, the essence of a Men's Shed is not the building, but the network of friendships between the members. We have a membership which covers all levels skills and is keen to pass on knowledge to the less experienced in a relaxed friendly atmosphere.
Our Shed has a well-equipped workshop based on the Kingston Maurward College Estate. Membership is open to all, men and women, who have an interest in woodwork and are aged over 18. The cost of annual membership is £40 per annum. The workshop will be open initially for morning and afternoon sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Because of the interest, the committee envisage having to close the membership to new members later this year. Anyone interested should apply for a membership application to the Secretary or download one from the downloads
