  Dorchester Men's Shed : Welcome

Our shed is open to both men and women and we are based in Dorchester, Dorset. We are a 'not for profit' organisation run by the members for the members to further friendships while working with wood.

We run a "Men's Shed" which is just a larger version of the typical man's shed in the garden, a place to feel at home and pursue practical interests with a high degree of autonomy. Our Men's Shed offers this to its members where they can share the tools and resources they need to work on projects of their own choosing at their own pace and in a safe, friendly and inclusive venue.

Men's Sheds are places of skill sharing and informal learning, of individual pursuits and community projects, of purpose, achievement and social interaction. A Men's Shed is a place of leisure where men and women come together to work with wood.

A Men's Shed activities usually involve making or mending in wood such as carpentry, joinery, turning, carving, whittling, marquetry, furniture renovation. Reclamation, reuse and restoration will feature strongly, and some say that is true of the men too !

Our Men's Shed welcomes anyone, male or female, as long as you are over the age of 18.

Whichever activities are pursued, the essence of a Men's Shed is not a building, which some don't have, but the network of friendships between the members. We have a membership which covers all levels of skills and is keen to pass on knowledge to the less experienced in a relaxed friendly atmosphere.

"I dropped in this morning and found myself with a cup of tea. Felt lovely. Brilliant - like manna from heaven.
I really had given up on finding a place like Men's Shed." - Chris, an existing shed member.
